The Referendum 1 & 2 Effort

The effort culminating in placing referendums 1 & 2 on the ballot  a grass roots, citizen driven, non-partisan effort seeking to give Park County citizens a more substantial voice in determining the content of land use policy  measures adopted and  implemented in the County.  The effort is supported by the more than 1300 citizens who signed petitions seeking to place referendums 1&2 on the ballot.  The objective is to amplify the voice Park County citizens in the land use policy decision making process.  The current process allows well funded non-profits and other outside elements to wield far too much influence in Park County land use policy decisions.  It is well past time for the citizens of the county to drive the bus rather than being taken for a ride by outside elements seeking to impose their own self interested objectives on the citizens of the county.

Park County Organizational Vision states the following:
"Park County, Montana is a trusting and thriving team engaging and empowering citizens and guests to enjoy quality of life, success in business, and world-class recreational and cultural opportunities."

There is no better way to empower the citizens within a governmental jurisdiction than to provide them with the  opportunity to express their individual position by voting on the significant policy issues impacting them.  Land use policies carry a great deal of significance and the citizens should be the final arbiters of whether to adopt land use policies that will apply to them.   Leaving such decision in the hands of three Commissioners is not consistent with the County vision centered on empowering its citizens.  Denying citizens the opportunity to vote on significant policy issues impacting them is consistent with government who holds their constituents in contempt rather than stewards of a construct that empowers them.
